Subject: Biggest Winner Competition - Spring 2014 Team Edition
Due to popular demand, we are bringing it back!
Start forming your teams now for the next installment of NEI’s Biggest Winner Competition. Over the past 4 competitions NEI has lost over 750 pounds and the top 2 teams in each competition lost 50% of that weight - which shows you how important teamwork and the right mix of people is for success.
To participate, please reply to this email with your 3 teammates and team name and have your entry fee turned into John McIntire NO LATER than Noon, Monday, March 31st. We will hold a lunch kickoff meeting for those participating before the first weigh-in – look for more info on that.
Read the rules below for more information – these rules have been created and modified based on input from the contestants in the last four competitions – all who participate agree to abide by these rules. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Official Rules
NEI’s Biggest Winner Competition V
Spring 2014 (April 1st – June 30th)
The purpose of this contest is to promote better health, more energy, and happier people through teamwork, supportive camaraderie, and competitive spirit. Weight loss during this competition must result from proper diet and exercise – the use of harmful diets and/or diet drugs is not in the spirit of the competition. Before joining the competition, please check with your doctor to ensure that you are fit enough to participate.
The goal is to form teams who will compete against each other in a 12-week competition to lose the most weight as measured by total team percentage in a 3-month period. The calculations are done by percent of weight lost to enable everyone to participate. There will be cash prizes for the 1st and 2nd place teams, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place individuals.
Rules of Engagement:
1. This is a supportive and friendly competition – there will be no nasty comments, snide remarks, teasing or criticism made to or by any of the contestants or spectators for any reason. By entering this competition, all contestants agree to abide by these rules in friendly competition or be removed from the competition without refund.
2. Each contestant will contribute $50 cash to the pot by the day of the first weigh-in – NEI will match dollar for dollar and add this to the pot. Phyllis will be the holder of the pot. Pot winnings will be distributed in the following format:
TEAM PAYOUTS BY LARGEST PERCENTAGE OF WEIGHT LOST BY THE TEAM:
1st Place Team – 60% of the pot
2nd Place Team – refund of $50 entry fee taken off the top of the pot
INDIVIDUAL PAYOUTS BY LARGEST PERCENTAGE OF WEIGHT LOST BY INDIVIDUAL:
1st Place Individual – 20% of the pot
2nd Place Individual – 15% of the pot
3rd Place Individual – 5% of the pot
3. Contestants can form their own teams of three (3) – if one of your teammates drops out of the competition (won’t happen, right?) you may NOT replace your teammate. Teams need to name themselves as this will be used to report the competition progress. The more teams that participate the bigger the winnings!
4. Your team MUST be mixed male and female – there may be either 2 males and 1 female OR 2 females and 1 male per team.
5. Each contestant’s weight will not be known to the group and will be kept confidential by an uninvolved 3rd party. All reporting of progress will be done in percentage of weight lost by the team, not the individual. The top 3 individuals by percentage lost will be ranked and listed without any detailed data.
6. Weigh-ins will be held every 2 weeks on Monday at lunch time. If a contestant is not available to make a weigh-in, you MUST arrange to be weighed in PRIOR to the Monday weigh-in when you will be absent. If you miss 2 weigh-ins, you will be removed from the competition without refund. Weigh-ins will be done with clothes on and shoes off (not the other way around). The designated contest uninvolved 3rd party will conduct the weigh-ins. Weigh-in Dates: Tue 4/1, Mon 4/14, Mon 4/28, Mon 5/12, Mon 5/26, Mon 6/9, Mon 6/30
7. The contest will officially begin with the first weigh-in on Tuesday, April 1st and end with the final weigh-in on Monday, Jun 30th.
8. The scale – The same scale will be used for each contestant and each and every weigh-in. It will be placed in an empty office on a sheet of wood to ensure it is flat and level. During the weigh-in, you will be asked to step on the scale twice. The lower of the two readings will be used as the official weight for that weigh-in. Note: All scales are different and none is perfect – there will be no need to fuss about the scale – if you don’t like the number it shows, do something about it!
9. A bar chart tracking the progress of the Biggest Winner teams will be posted and updated in the cafe after each weigh-in.
10. Any disputes will be diplomatically decided by the uninvolved 3rd party whose decision will be final – all contestants agree to abide by his/her decision.
Have Fun!
